외국인의 입장에서 미국의 Medical School 을 들어간다는 것은 참으로 어려운 일이라는 것은 모두가 알고 있습니다. 그렇다면 모든 외국인은 미국의 의사가 될 수 없을까요? 그렇지 않습니다. 놀랍게도 이미 미국에서 의료활동하고 있는 의사 중에 27%는 외국인입니다. 물론 추후에 시민권이 나와서 지금은 미국 시민이 되었겠지만 말입니다. 그 비밀은 바로 국제 의대에 있습니다.
국제 의대 (International Medical School) 는 미국이 아닌 다른 나라에 있는 의대를 지칭하는 말입니다. 하지만, 모든 국제 의대를 졸업했다고 미국의 의사시험을 볼 수 있는 것은 아니죠. 미국의 의사협회에서 인정한 의대들만 미국 의사시험에 응시할 자격이 주어집니다. 한국도 10 여개 정도의 의학대학 졸업자들이 미국 의사 자격시험인 USMLE 시험을 볼 수 있습니다. 하지만 레지던트 매칭이 안되고, 영어 때문에 미국에서의 의료활동을 하기 어렵죠.

American University of Caribbean
American University of Caribbean, AUC 는 1978 년에 폴 S. 티엔 박사에 의해 설립되었습니다. AUC 는 미국과 전 세계 학생에게 의학 공부를 가르치는 일에 있어서 우수하다는 평을 듣고 있으며 500 명이 넘는 교수는 다방면의 의료 전문인으로 구성이 돼 있어서 본과와 임상을 가르치는데 부족함이 없습니다. 또한 AUC 졸업생 중 3500 명 이상이 미국 의사 면허를 취득했고 미 전지역에서 의료 활동을 하고 있습니다.

CALIFORNIA
The Medical Board of California has recognized that the resident course of instruction leading to the Doctor of Medicine degree awarded by AUC, in St. Maarten, is equivalent to that required by Section 2089 and 2089.5 of the California Business and Professions Code. The medical education program is equivalent to that of a Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accredited school. This approves AUC to conduct clinical clerkships in California and enables AUC’s graduates to apply for licensure in that state.
FLORIDA
Under the provision of Chapter 1005, Florida Statutes and Chapter 6E of the Florida Administrative Code, the Commission for Independent Education of the Florida Department of Education licenses, AUC is approved to offer clerkship instruction in Florida. NEW YORK
The New York State Education Department has approved AUC’s medical education to place students in clinical clerkships, provided that those clerkships are in hospitals affiliated with AUC.
TEXAS
Recognition by the Texas Medical Board facilitates an AUC graduate’s application for physician licensure. The Texas Medical Board has determined that graduates of AUC have demonstrated Substantial Equivalence of Their Education.
USMLE 1 차 시험 96% 합격
USMLE Step 1: In 2017, 96 percent of AUC students passed Step 1 of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) on the first attempt. AUC students’ five-year cumulative first-time pass rate for the USMLE Step 1 exam is 94 percent.
USMLE Step 2 CK: In 2017, 86.8 percent of AUC students passed USMLE Step 2 CK on the first attempt. AUC students' five-year cumulative first-time pass rate for the USMLE Step 2 CK exam is 87.9%.
USMLE Step 2 CS: In 2017, 85.1 percent of AUC students passed USMLE Step 2 CS on the first attempt. AUC students' five-year cumulative first-time pass rate for the USMLE Step 2 CS exam is 85.1%.
레지던시 매칭 86.4% 성공
미국은 한국과 달리 레지던시가 매칭 되지 않으면 의료 활동을 할 수 없습니다. 그러므로 미국에서 의사가 되느냐 못되느냐는 레지던시 매칭이 매우 중요합니다. 일반적인 국제 의대는 레지던시 매칭률이 50% 밖에 되지 않는 반면 2016-2017 년 조사에 따르면 AUC 출신 국제학생들은 2 년 이내에 86.4% 이상이 레지던시 매칭에 성공하였습니다. 대표적으로는 내과, 소아과, 가정의학과, 산부인과로 매칭이 되어 현재 전미에서 의료활동을 하고 있습니다

- 생물 1,2/일반 화학 1,2/유기 화학 1,2/물리, 통계, 미적분 중 택 1 이수
- TOEFL (100), IELTS (7.0), 영어 1,2 (미국대학교) 중 택 1
- 비자 발행 결격 사유가 없는자
- 대학교 졸업자가 아닌 경우 연계대학에서 4 년제 졸업후 프로그램 어플라이 가능
- 대학교 졸업자 중 입학조건 불충족 시 연계대학에서 충족 후 프로그램 어플라이 가능
